Day 16: Stourport on Severn to Brewood

Awaking at 5am I quickly packed up and set off passing the last of the lock gates on the River Severn before arriving at Stourport on Severn. Stopping off for a hearty breakfast I then set off along the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal. This involved portaging my fully laden sea kayak around over thirty locks, chatting to people at almost every lock. Over the day I raised my kayak almost 300 feet; hard and thirst work! Passing through Kidderminster, I stopped briefly for lunch at Kniver before continuing on towards Wolverhampton. I paddled for twelve hours, finally reaching Autherley Junction where I joined the Shropshire Union Canal. I continued on to the village of Brewood where I had been informed that there was a lovely pub. I finished the day with a pub meal and a well earned pint of Stella. Highlight of the day was probably passing through Cookley tunnel – I have always been obsessed with tunnels!
