Day 20: Chester to Ellesmere Port to Liverpool

MarkerAwaking early I had breakfast before leaving the comfort of my hotel room. I put the kayak back into the kayak and continued down past several locks into the centre of Chester. After passing Chester I continued onwards towards Ellesmere Port. The presence of heavy industry and motorways was ever present. I arrived into the National Waterways Museum at the port after about an hour and a half of paddling. I then rang the Manchester Ship Canal to get permission to cross the canal (to get to the¬†Mersey) but was told that under no circumstances was I to cross the canal. I was stuck in Ellesmere Port! I hung around the museum for the rest of the afternoon wondering how on earth I would manage to get over the canal. Enter John Driver from Lets go Adventure who very kindly gave me a lift across the Mersey to Liverpool Canoe Club. Another guy from the Canoe club then gave me a lift out of town as it wasn’t considered safe to paddle thorough the urban areas so late at night. I finished the day with a couple of pints and a sleep under a rather smelly bridge.
