Day 29: Brighouse Bay to Monreith

Solway Harvester MemorialLeaving Brighouse Bay with what could almost be counted as a hangover I headed out across Wigtown Bay. The first hour was pretty hairy – the wind was up and the waves were breaking and rising up due to the uneven bottom, the wind and the tide. Conditions soon calmed and I had an enjoyable paddle out across the bay before arriving into the Isle of Whithorn. By this time the wind had picked up again. Took a walk around and got some food at the Hotel. I then continued onwards along the coast in rough conditions, rounding Burrow Head and making my way into Luce Bay. The passage was very slow as the tidal streamwas now running against me. On reaching Monreith I beached the kayak and had a look around. No shop, no pub, no phone signal. Even the public phone box didn’t work! I cooked up a meal on the beach and lit a fire to try and dry out some of my gear.
