West Bay – Seatown – Golden Cap – Charmouth – Fishpond (22Km)

This weekend I headed back down to Dorset for a visit to see the family. On Saturday I walked along the south west coast path from West Bay to Charmouth and then back inland to Fishpond. Setting off from West Bay into a relentless headwind I marvelled at the power of the rough sea below the cliffs. On reaching Seatown I stopped off in the Anchor pub for some rather delicious food. I would thoroughly recommend the food in this pub, although it does get rather cramped and busy, even on a blowy Saturday in early February. Continuing on, I quickly made my way up to Golden Cap from where I always have to stop and admire the view. Golden Cap is one of my favourite places on the south coast. I continued on down in to Charmouth before heading back inland to reach Fishpond by about 16:00. I walked around 22Km. In the evening I was rather saddened to learn that the Bottle Inn (my Dorset ‘local’) had closed its doors once again. Although the last tenants had not been there long they had got the atmosphere inside just right. Hopefully the owner will invest in some much needed maintenance and then perhaps someone may be able to make a real go of it over the summer. As per usual, I headed back to Swindon on the Sunday evening.
