On Sunday I took the bus from Swindon all the way to Devizes and set off along the canal path with the aim of reaching Bath Spa. On reaching Caen Hill locks I was diverted away from the tow-path which was closed due to restoration work. After a lengthy detour I rejoined the canal at Foxhangers. continuing onwards I reached Semington Arms where I stopped at the Somerset Arms for a lovely Sunday roast and a pint. I walked on into the afternoon passing through Hilperton before arriving at Bradford on Avon where I paused again for another pint in the Canal Tavern. The final section on to Bath Spa was particularly pleasant with some beautiful views down to the river Avon. I was also impressed with the Avoncliff and Dundas Aqueducts. I couldn’t believe how many of the canal boats along this section actually appeared to have people living on them. Some seemed to have families living on them. By the time I reached Bathhampton the sun had gone down and I walked the last section into Bath in dusk. I took a train back to Swindon after a beautiful day out in the open.
