Mum’s 60th Birthday Celebrations

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

Shave Cross HoundThis weekend I headed down to Exeter on Saturday morning where I met my brother and his family before joining them at their home in Honiton. En route we visited the garden centre to pick up some giant pots and shrubs. I looked after William for an hour in the afternoon whilst David and Yvonne took Molly for a walk in the fields. David and I hit the Honiton pubs in the evening and ended up in the town’s only club, suitably titled ‘The Pit Club’. On Sunday we headed across to Fishpond where we were joined by the rest of the family to celebrate my mother’s 60th birthday with a meal at the Shave Cross Inn. The food was lovely and we all had a good time. I returned to Swindon on the train after a truly enjoyable weekend.

Only one night to go before I leave for Thailand!

Fishpond Winter Wildlife Photographs

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

I had an enjoyable trip down to the family home at the weekend where I spent time with my parents and of course Molly. On Saturday I walked down to Charmouth via a field with a bull in. Suprisingly, he was the only one in the field that didn’t charge at me (the charge was soon halted as I turned towards the herd and counter-charged towards them).

The following Photographs were taken during my latest weekend trip down to Dorset where I made the most of the late summer sunshine and also managed a swim in the sea.

Swimming in the sea at Charmouth

Charmouth Stone CircleThis weekend I headed back down to Dorset making the most of some beautiful late summer sunshine. Arriving on Friday evening after a full on week of work I was greeted enthusiastically by our family dog Molly. Rebakah and her fiance Tim arrived on Saturday for lunch and we spent the afternoon walking around the hill fortresses at Lambert’s and Coney’s Castle. In the evening we headed down to Lyme Regis for a walk along the Cobb and a few beers at a couple of the beach front pubs. On Sunday Morning we headed down to Charmouth where Tim and I had a swim in the sea. Although cold, it was actually very pleasant. I also built a stone circle on the beach. I headed back to Swindon via Street in the evening – it has been great to make the most of this late summer sunshine.

In search of the Cannington Viaduct

Sunday, September 13th, 2009

Cannington ViaductThis Weekend I headed home to Dorset for yet another weekend with my family. Molly and I set out early on Saturday morning in search of Cannington Viaduct. We walked for approximately two hours before reaching the grade two listed structure that was part of the old Axminster to Lyme Regis branch railway. The Viaduct was one of the first structures of its kind to be made entirely out of concrete and dates back to 1903. From the viaduct we continued on down in to Lyme Regis and along the beach to Charmouth, pausing for approximately half an hour to allow the tide to drop. Despite waiting for the tide to fall, Molly still managed to get swept in to the sea by a large waves as we made our way along the sea defences. Further tribulations were to follow as we got half way across the cow field, only to be stampeded by forty cows who took exception to Molly’s presence. I had to stand our ground while backing slowly towards the gate, before throwing a terrified Molly over to safety. I quickly followed, aided by an immense rush of adrenaline – a close shave indeed. In total we walked 25Km. On returning to Fishpond we relaxed in the garden for the rest of the afternoon, making the most of the late winter sun. I returned to Swindon on Sunday evening expecting another busy week  at the office.

Yet another Weekend in the Pond

Monday, August 24th, 2009

FlowerAfter another busy week at the Great Western Hospital and dramas in the shared house in which I live I headed down to Dorset on saturday Morning to spend the long weekend with my parents down in the Pond and enjoy a well earned rest. It was great to see our family dog Molly for the second weekend in a row – Molly is always very pleased to see me. Saturday was lovely weather and Molly and I managed a walk up on to Lambert’s Castle. Sunday saw some rain and it was certainly that bit colder. I returned to Swindon on Monday afternoon with a busy week ahead of me.
