The beautiful Wiltshire village of Avebury is located around 12 miles from Swindon and is home to two of the most spectacular ancient monuments in Europe, namely the ring of stones and the man-made Silbury Hill. The whole area is UNESCO listed as a world heritage site. Well worth a visit, it’s best to come by bus so you can enjoy a drink at the pub and a wander around the spectacular circle. Expect a mix of tourists and new-age types.
