Chocolate Brownies

A traditional recipe for chocolate brownies. Makes 16. CONTAINS NUTS

Ingredients

  • 100gr / 4oz self raising flour.
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 75g/ 3oz cocoa
  • 50g / 2oz ground almonds
  • 450g /1lb soft brown sugar
  • 225g /8 oz soft margarine
  • 3 eggs
  • 4 tablespoons milk.
  • Optional: 50g chocolate chips and / or 75g chopped walnuts.
  • To serve: Dust lightly with icing sugar.

Method

  • Prepare oven  160C / 325 F / Gas Mark 3.
  • Sift flour, baking powder and cocoa into a bowl.
  • Add all the other ingredients and beat until well blended.
  • Divide the mixture between 2 7” / 18cm square tins lined with baking paper and bake in a moderate oven for 50-55 minutes.
  • Allow to cool completely in tins then cut into 2”/ 5cm squares.
  • Makes 16.
Freezes well for 4-6 months.
Defrosting time: 1 hr at room temperature
